OUR COMPANY

Nearterm was founded in 1990 as a privately held interim management company. Management embraced a strategy to be the leader in bringing human capital and expertise to it’s client base. This strategy included tactical expansion of service offerings and development of an ownership culture.

Pursuant to that strategy, Nearterm carefully acquired Excel Unlimited, Inc, a search firm and Scott & Matthews, Inc., a healthcare revenue cycle consulting practice. Like Nearterm, both of these companies were renowned leaders in their respective fields and had structure, collateral and values consistent with NearTerm. The mergers were a strategic endeavor to provide a full range of expertise and powerful human resources to clients.

Still pursuant to strategic goals, in 2008, Nearterm became an ESOP company. Many companies talk about the importance of employees “taking ownership” of their business objectives but Nearterm decided to “walk the walk” and is now employee owned. Employee ownership is reflected in everything the company does and is.
           
The company is based in Houston, Texas and serves a national client base.

OUR PRINCIPLES

Mr. James L. Higgins
President and Founder

Mr. Higgins has over twenty years of success as a professional recruiter. He specializes in the recruitment of healthcare executives, with emphasis on Chief Financial Officers, Directors of Patient Financial Services and Medical Records Directors.

He has been a Houston Association of Personnel Consultants Top Ten Nominee every year from 1988 through 1998 and a Texas Association of Personnel Consultants Top Fifteen Nominee from 1988 through 1998. Mr. Higgins is also the Founder and CEO of Excel Unlimited, Inc. an executive search firm specializing in healthcare recruiting.

Mr. Daniel W. Smith
Vice President and Founder

Mr. Smith received his Masters Degree in Healthcare Administration from the University of Colorado and has spent the past 20 years serving the healthcare industry. His experience includes hospital operations, as well as physician organization development and operation. Mr. Smith has earned a reputation for providing creative and practical solutions for complex problems. In addition to his duties with NearTerm, he is also a partner in Scott & Matthews, Inc. a healthcare management consulting firm that provides professional services to a national client base.

Mr. James L. Matthews
Secretary/Treasurer and Founder

Upon receiving his B.A. from Central State University, in 1973, Mr. Matthews pursued a successful career with several provider organizations. In 1990, he founded Scott & Matthews, Inc., and continues to serve that organization as President. The architect of many A/R turnarounds, Mr. Matthews is a recognized authority in healthcare management practices and has spoken frequently before HFMA and AAHAM groups. His practical application of expertise and experience has added an enhanced level of value to the professional services offered by NearTerm.
